Terms of Use
The rules for using this site, kept as short as they can honestly be.
By using babynames.io you accept these terms. If you do not, please do not use the site.
What This Site Is
A reference and a set of tools for choosing a name. The name data comes from official birth records published by national statistics offices, and the written meanings and histories are our own editorial work. Sources are listed on Data Sources.
It is information, not advice. Choosing a name for a child is entirely your decision, and nothing here is a recommendation about a real person.
Accuracy
We work hard at this — every published figure is checked against the underlying records by an automated gate before it goes live, and claims about a name's history are fact-checked against independent sources. Where sources genuinely disagree about a name's origin, we say so on the page rather than picking one and stating it as settled.
Even so, we cannot guarantee that everything is correct or complete. Statistics offices revise their own data, and etymology is often contested. If you spot something wrong, tell us at [email protected] and we will check it.
Using the Site
You may use babynames.io freely for choosing a name. You may not:
- scrape, copy or republish our written content or the site's data in bulk;
- use automated tools in a way that degrades the site for other people;
- attempt to reach data that is not yours — including guessing shared-list codes or invite links;
- use the site to harass anyone, or upload anything unlawful in the notes or list titles.
The underlying birth statistics are public records and are not ours to restrict. Our written meanings, histories, derived measures and the design of this site are ours.
Accounts and Shared Lists
An account is optional. If you have one, you are responsible for what happens through it — in particular, an invite link to a shared list lets whoever holds it vote as the person it was made for, so only send it to that person.
Do not put anything into a list title, a note or a name field that you would not want the other people on that list to read. On a friends and family list, every vote is shown against the name of whoever cast it.
We may remove a list or close an account that is being used to harass someone or to break these terms. You can delete your own account and lists at any time.
Availability
The site is provided as it is. We do not promise it will always be available or error-free, and we are not liable for any loss arising from using it — beyond what the law does not permit us to exclude. Nothing here limits your rights as a consumer.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date below always says when they last changed, and a significant change will be flagged on the site rather than made quietly.
